well recently i have put together a IW build for farming-mostly kryta ettins- and when i tryed it out i needed a whole party with even then i died against a large party of lvl13 caromi

i was just wondering if it is me or my build that is letting me down so here it is:-

Me/R

illusion 13 (12+1) - minor rune
insparration 11 (10+1) - minor rune
fastcasting 7 (4+2+1) - major rune + hat

skills:

IW
distortion
spirit of failure
ether feast
spirit shackles
conjour phantasm
ether lord -(didnt even use

)
rez sig

so if anyone has any tips or pointers please can you tell me

first off, you have no way to mitigate or heal damage WELL other than ether feast. possibly swap out ether lord (unused as you said) for troll unguent or another useful secondary skill.

second, why do you have a res sig when you are farming?? replace it with cry of frustration to interrupt the healing signet of the ettins for quicker times.

third, spirit shackles isnt really needed. the ettins attacks (i believe) only consist of one energy user so its not a big deal. try swapping for an extra damage skill like clumisness.

last, that is a LOT of fast casting for farming. try swapping the attributes around while going with a different rune/hat setup to maximize potential.

yes it is pretty lame but anyway i took rez because i was in a 6 man team-(henchies)- and i have a lot of fast casting because ether feast is not the quickesst healing ever

Mmmhhhhhh..... Lot things to do here... I suggest to start at Bergen Hotspring or Beetletun, less tengu there.

for your build......

skills:

IW- OK
distortion - OK
spirit of failure - OK
ether feast - OK
spirit shackles - Dont needed, Clumsiness
conjour phantasm - OK and can change for another one (Clumsiness or Empathy for exemple)
ether lord - Dont needed, change for an interrupt healing sig (Diversion, Cry of frustation, Ignorance)
rez sig - Dont needed, you're alone. Empathy/Illusion of Weakness

so I gives you.......

-IW
-Distortion
-Spirit of failure
-Ether Feast
-Clumsiness
-Conjure Phantasm
-Diversion/Cry offrustation/Ignorance (Domination)
-Empathy (Domination) / Illusion of Weakness (to be sure if you're afraid to die)

thanks a lot but it now costs me 1k to buy a skill and i have no money so i am pretty much screwed for a while as i do not have about 3 of the above skills and i was farming from beetletun

May be if you changed your secondary to warrior and bring along flurry. The less damage on flurry won't apply with IW. You could also use savage slash when the ettins use heal sig.

Maybe for speed but you got hit because you're not under distortion (wich its a stance too). The reason for distortion + spirit of failure is 1) not to get hit by ettins (not by irresistible blow) and 2) gain energy because you need an energy maintain for distortion and recast Illusionary weaponary while you can. For savage slash, I dont know if it works skills attacks. I never tested this one while IW. If it works, its good, if not, skip it.

dont forget, if your soloing you need some heals, ur part ranger, so put troll unguent in there...great skill

This is why mesmers have Ether feast to heal themselve without using any other heal skills from others professions. BTW, troll unguent is a skill and not a spell, so fastcasting doesn't work on it. If I want to heal now, I prefer Ether feast than Troll ungent bc you must put some points in wilderness survival.

Whoa, revive an old thread. Just a thing, Fast casting works only on spells and not on any skills. Troll Unguent is skill. Read the description about Fast Casting.

warrior's us live vicariously/cyclone axe to do AoE damage and gain fast returns after skill attacks from Etins. I tend to run through the featherheads when I farm, so you should consider just skipping that part of your fight as well.

More important is our difference in build style. I've farmed this with monk and Whammo as a 55er and a Dorlak ho. On my Dorlak build, mesmer skills have started to come into play; especially Physical resistence for Etin farms and Ele Resist on IDS runs. Perhaps a closer look at these two long lasting stances will give you some ideas? They prove great damage reduction for my tank. If not, buy some runes and go Me/Mo. The core for 55 monk (and necro, mesmer, ele, what have you) is a -50Hp cesta, Prot Spirit, Balthazar's Aura and Breeze/Mending.
